The applicable versions are listed on the EMC Directive list of harmonized standards published on the European Commission web site. Exceptions to this include examples such as power line harmonics and voltage fluctuation and flicker, as these basic standards are referenced in the Official Journal directly. Basic standards, although on the list, are generally not applied directly, but via reference from one of the other three types. Very few product specific standards are available. The most commonly applied standards are Product Family standards. The precedence of harmonized standards follows an informal ranking based on the type of standard Product family standards are easy to identify, such standards will mention “Product Family standard for.X.” directly in the title. Examples of ITE may be any of or similar to examples such as These product family standards are for “any equipment which has a primary function of either or a combination of, entry, storage, display, retrieval, transmission, processing, switching or control, of data and of telecommunication messages and which may be equipped with one or more terminal ports typically operated for information transfer” as defined in EN 55022 Section 3.1. With respect to the European EMC Directive, the product family standards EN (European Norm) 55022: for Emissions and EN 55024: for Immunity address Information Technology Equipment. Generally ITE equipment is low voltage in nature, below 600V rated supply. Devices that have only auxiliary data processing functions may be classified under other product family groups. Such devices predominantly generate a multiplicity of periodic pulsed (binary) electrical waveforms. With respect to Electromagnetic Compatibility, Information Technology Equipment is a group or “family” of product, which include devices that have a primary function related to the collection, transfer, storage, or processing of data.
